Shrinky-Dinks for the Grand Kids
These are some Shrinky-Dink craft projects I made for my grandchildren. I used typical Shrinky-Dink plastic, colored pencils, acrylic and watercolor paints. All the drawings are original.
THE ARIEL HOUSE -- a doll house filled with dolls and holiday presents: 2010
I used a paper mache box from Michael's and decorated it with acrylic paint and Shrinky-Dink icicles.
Inside the house is a family of Shrinky-Dink dolls and their holiday guest, Ariel the Mermaid. There is a wrapped present for each doll. Some of the presents include: a rocking horse, a lawn-tennis set, several dresses and accessories, a pup tent, and a little book about their Christmas party called "The Night of the Big Snow Storm"

THE NIGHT OF
THE BIG
SNOW STORM
Once upon a time, three big sisters lived with their three younger brothers in a warm, cozy little house. Their best friend, a mermaid named Ariel, often came to visit them. | On one special night, the night of the Mid-Winter holiday, they were all sitting around admiring their beautiful Winter Tree. It stood proudly in a corner of the room wearing its holiday decorations. | Under the tree were some lovely presents which the sisters and brothers wanted to give each other to celebrate Mid-Winter. | There was also a present for their dear friend, Ariel. They had all worked together to make it for her, because they loved her very much. Ariel had always been one of their most favorite people. |
As they were sitting there talking among themselves, it began to snow outside. It snowed, and it snowed, and it snowed! | The twin boys went to look out the window. “Oh look,” they shouted, “It has snowed so much that we can't even see the road!” | “It's getting cold in here too,” the youngest brother said. “Will you please light a fire so that we will be warm,” he asked the oldest sister. | “Of course,” she said. And she built a bright, warm fire in the fireplace. Soon their little house was warm and cozy again. |
“I have an idea,” said Ariel. “Lets open the presents.” “Good idea!” the twin brothers shouted. “Great idea!” said the youngest brother. | They all opened their presents, one at a time, so that everybody could see what everybody else had received. “I love mine!” said the sister with black hair. | 'I love mine too,” said the brown-haired sister. “Mine is wonderful!” said the youngest of the three sisters – the one with golden hair. | “Thank you!”shouted the youngest brother, “It's just what I wanted.” “Thank you! Thank you!” shouted the twins. “It's just what we wanted too.” |
“I think mine is the best of all, “ said Ariel, “Because I can see that all of you worked on it together.” | “I love you all,” said Ariel. “You are the very best friends I've ever had.” | “We love you too,” said the sisters and brothers. “We hope you will come back and spend every Mid-Winter holiday with us.” | ...and she did! |
